Poppy's Birthday

Chloe has always loved to help her Grandmother in the kitchen.  When she was barely walking she would sit on the Kitchen floor with pots and pans and play contently.  When she got old enough to sit on the counter she could be found helping Grandmother fix lunch or supper or a "Special Dessert."

So when she knew that my Birthday was coming up, she wanted to make some cupcakes for my Birthday.
Since grandmother wasn't here the job fell to me to help her make the cupcakes with her.

We got everything together, the cake mix, the eggs, butter, oil, water, measuring cups, cupcake holders and baking pans.

I explained that we would clean as we go so that in the end we wouldn't have to clean up a big mess.

After mixing the cake mix we are ready to fill the cake tins.

And she fills up one pan and starts on another one...

And some more...

She is being so careful not to make a mess and so far it has been perfect.

Oops, we got in a hurry to finish and we got some batter on the mixing bowl. Now they are ready to go into the hot oven and she sets the timer(just like Grandmother) and wait for them to cook.

Poppy, you can't put them on the counter, you have to put them on wire racks so that they cool quicker. It will allow the air to circulate around them so that they cool quicker.

Were going to put Pink Icing on them because I like pink, and then were going to out pink sparkles over the icing. I asked her how we were going to do that and she said, "Poppy if you will just hold on a minute, I'm going to show you."

One pan down and one to go, this has been quite a task. It has been fun watching her enjoying making these cupcakes and knowing that she wanted to do them for me. I know that all she will do is just lick the icing of and yet again she will probably surprise me and actually eat one.

When Grandmother got home she couldn't wait to show her what she had done. Quite the accomplishment for an almost six year old.

Chloe asks her grandmother if we have enough candles for the cupcakes for my birthday and grandmother said probably not. Chloe said that we could go to the store and get a bunch more since Poppy would need more. I told her that we didn't need anymore because the cupcake would look like it was on fire with that many candles.
